Guideline 4. Clarify Natural Language Usage
When building a page you should specify what the natural language for the majority of the document is. You should also identify any sections that are in a language other than the primary one. It is also important to mark up any abbreviations or acronyms. Doing these things allows screen readers and brail devices to interpret it correctly. This also allows search engines to recognize the words even though they are abbreviated. Implementing these markups not only helps impaired user, but can help all users to better understand your content.
Checkpoints
- Clearly identify changes in the natural language of a document's text and any text equivalents
- Specify the expansion of each abbreviation or acronym in a document where it first occurs.
